The Naauwpoort quartz porphyry formed during local synsedimentary volcanism towards the end of the initial rifting phase in the central Damara belt of Namibia. The Pan African belts of Namibia consist of the north-south trending Gariep and Kaoko belts and the northeast trending, intracontinental Damara belt.
