Summary: Analyses of the contents of 103 stomachs of bat-eared foxes Otocyon megalotis collected over a period of seven years in the Orange Free State and northern Cape Province showed this species to be insectivorous. More than three quarters of the food items consisted of animal matter, mostly insects. Isoptera, almost exclusively Hodotermes mossambicus, formed the bulk of the diet, with large numbers of workers being taken during winter, spring and early summer.
