The Hartmann zebra in South West Africa is a 'problem animal' as well as an endangered species. A research project was launched to determine its distribution, status, habitat preference, ecology, behaviour and population dynamics. The results was used to determine a policy to ensure its survival as well as to satisfy the farming community. The habitat preference of the hartmann zebra is discussed and it was found that the main distribution area is situated in the Khomas Hochland
