Comparatively little is known of the general biology of this bird. It is restricted in range to the central plateau of South Western Africa. An outline is given of the taxonomic history of Achaetops pycnopygius, the habitat preferences of the bird are discussed, some field observations of habits are given, various calls, nest and nest sites are described
