Summary: Basic problems of water related planning projects and water supply programs are discussed for Namibian drylands. Hydro-environmental risk potentials as well as related change detection measures are presented in order to exemplify the human impact on environmentally highly sensitive areas in the transition zone between savannah, semi-desert and desert, respectively. major aspects of a sustainable water resources management are critically investigated for any further economic and ecological development of ephemeral catchments in Namibia.
