The Klinghardt mountains were the site of an important volcanic outburts late in the Eocene or early in the Oligocene. The authors spent a month in the field and have carried out an investigation of the volcanology, petrography and geochemistry of the phonolites; over 60 specimens have been analysed for major and trace elements
