Summary: The Brandberg Mountain range is rated as Africa's most important centre of rock paintings. Twyfelfontein sandstone hills again are rated as the greatest show of petroglyphs in Africa. That was the main reason as to why they were classified in 2010 as a World Heritage Site. Water was in the past no problem as seen from an old river terrace 150 feet wide. Here portraits of animals and their footprints, together with mysterious signs, all labouriously pecked and chiseld into the sandstone. Covered in this article are descriptions of the petroglyphs, rock paintings, the stone age industries and finally its history and distribution
