Dissolved gaseous nitrogen, oxygen, argon and helium are present in virtually all ground waters, together with a large number of other gases not discussed here. As a result, some of these gases are being used in a wide variety of earth-science investigations. The data presented and reviewed here suggest the study of gas concentrations may also have useful applications in hydrological research
