Summary: The pictures featured in this catalogue have been selected as a fair sample of both the World War II and the Contemporary Collections. Works by civilian artists, that were incorporated in the World War II collection, as well as a selection of the works in the Contemporary Collection by trainee military artists, are also included. The exhibition of these works is an important milestone in the history of South African military art as it is the first occasion on which a composite exhibition combining works from both collections has been staged. Some of the works are well-known and have been on display in the past; many, however, particulary from the Contemporary period are being displayed as part of an exhibition for the first time
