This publication tells the story of how the German, South African and Namibian engineers developed and maintaidut a road network in Namibia. Honoured are the pioneer road construction engineers and their men even through the depression years. Since 1950 an in-house construction establishment was founded with the different units of mechanical section, materials laboratory, own plant and fleet and a work force of highly qualified and skilled men dedicated to help open up the country. In 1958 the Roads Department became also responsible for the construction and maintenance of airstrips. Over the last 60 years bituminised roads were introduced and maintaidut with the involvement of consultants and contractors. Responcebilities increased with the role of the its corridors and links with neighbouring countries
