The Brukkaros volcano has puzzled geologists for a long time. No volcanic rock have been found in its immediate surroundings or at the mountain itself. Steep slope rise up to 500 metre, forming a typical crater. This volcano however never erupted. For three years scientists from the Smithsonian Institute stay here where they errected a solar radiation observatory. On the mountain itself were recorded 168 plant species, of which half occurred in the surrounding areas. In total some 22 endemic plant species were counted which occur only in a broader area within Namibia
