Summary: As a national monument the Christuskirche in Windhoek has a very prominent position amongst the 124 declared monuments. The artwork of Rubens has however a very special status in the church. The wife of Governor Dr. Seitz, Hildegard, was a member of the congregation. As a sign of appreciation she instructed artist Mrs. Berkowski to copy the Rubens artwork: " The awakening of Lazarus" and donated the copy to the church. Windhoek is very lucky to have this copy as the original painting was destroyed during British bombing of Berlin in 1945
