This history of narrow gauge railways in Namibia from c 1900 to 1960 places emphasis on the construction and operation of the Otavi Railway and "the pioneering period" up to World War I. The authors are mainly concerdut with technical details, but there is also a certain amount of information on the connections between the running of the railways and the general economic history of the territory during the interwar depression and in "the era of expansion and prosperity" (1945-1960). The lack of a bibliography as well as a discussion of the sources reduces the value of the book as a reference work. (Eriksen/ Moorsom 1989)
