Summary: Two projects were initiated to study the fish population in the Zambezi, Kavango and Kwando and in the recently filled Lake Liambezi. One study found that the growth rates of each species differed between populations in the four systems, being fastest in the lake Liambezi. The next project carried out test fishing using a variety of gears, including small meshed gillnets and trawl nets, to determine which is most suitable for the proposed fisheries.
