A study on the current use of the names for two geographical races of the Glossy Starling, Lamprocolius nitens (Linnaeus), resident in Southern Africa, namely L.n. phoenicopterus (Swainson) 1838, Orange river near priska, and L.n. bispecularis (Strickland) 1852 Damaraland are referable to one and the same racial group of populations. Alternatively, the distinct larger birds of the eastern Cape province deserve a description as a new race
