The Social Weavers species used to build their communal nests only in certain trees. A modernization process has taken effect in that they now (1949) in South West Africa and the Northern Cape Province make extensive use of telephone poles as nesting sites. In another observation near Windhoek in acaciathorn veld the Glosy Starling, Lamprocolius nitens bispecularis uses telephone poles extensively as nesting sites
