Summary: This study reports on the activity of the dermal glands and associated secretory cells of Onymacris plana in response to the climatic gradient of the central Namib. The morphology of the material which appears on the surface is described and quantitative information on its reflectance properties is provided. Finally the authors discuss how this dynamic secretion might help the beetle to survive the hostile conditions of the Namib desert
