Summary: The very noticeable decline of the Jackass pengiun on the southern African coastline was a cause for serious concern. For this reason a census of the the total penguin population was undertaken on Halifax Island. The conclusion reached was that the Jackass pengiun population has declidut to a fraction of its former numbers, and that the species will disappear from the island if trends continue
