An unknown 18-km long deposit of horizontally bedded unconsolidated sand, gypsum-cemented sand and conglomerate containing up to two fossiliferous layers was exposed by trenching south-east of Swakopmund. The deposit is described and a mechanical analysis of the sand has been carried out in an attempt to establish its origin
