Summary: An optometric survey was conducted on a number of African elephants in the Etosha National Park. In this survey all elephants visually examidut were darted from a helicopter. The purpose was to ascertain the refractive error of the elephants examidut, to measure interpupilary distances, palperbral aperture, corneal and pupil sizes, to measure the angle of divergence, to observe pupil and nictitating membrane reactions to light, to observe the various media of the eye
