East of Windhoek, outliers of Witvlei and Nama Group rocks occur in two synclinoria on the Southern Foreland of the late Proterozoic to early Palaeozoic Damara Orogen. Those sediments are underlain by conglomerate, sandstone, shale and carbonite of the Tsumis Group which was deposited during early Damara rifting, followed by predominantly fluvial arenites of the Nosib Group. The Witvlei Group occurs only in the study area and has been correlated with similar rocks in the Naukluft and Witputs-Rosh Pinah regions in western-central and southwestern Namibia
