Subject(s): DDC classification:
  • PER 553a Geological Survey, Memoir
Summary: The area investigated is situated south-east of Walvis Bay in the Namib Desert of South West Africa/ Namibia. Exposures on the south bank of the Kuiseb and those present between sand dunes were also mapped. The mapping project was initiated as part of Geological Survey's programme of mapping economically interesting areas in South West Africa/ Namibia. The detailed description of the stratigraphy, outcrop and rock types has been dealt elsewhere (Sawyer 1979) and only a brief summary of the rock types will be given. Here an attempt is made at establishing the deformation history of each zone and of correlating the deformation between the various zones. An investigation of mineral-fabric relations is intended to resolve the metamorphic history and to fix metamorphic events within the tectonic framework
