Environmental assessments provide mechanism to avoid the unnecessary destruction of the environment, to enhance the positive elements of a project, and, if applied at the policy and programme level, to promote sustainable development. Due to rapid industrial development our ecology, clean water and air, productive soil, oil polution in the sea and the earth's rich biotec diversity is largely threatedut. This resulted in the Green Movement as a pressure group to become gradually so powerful that they are able to influence national policies in many countries
