For that reason a strong cultural link exists between DE and Namibia, and in fact was DE the first foreign country to sign a cultural agreement with Namibia on 5 June 1991. In the field of education DE supported many schools and in addition the Goethe Zentrum was opedut to promote cultural co-operation. Furthermore, teachers at the D H P S are supported by DE where many Namibians also attend school. The D H P S was originally founded on 19 January 1909 as the " Kaiserliche Realschule".
