Summary: Dr. Alfons Weber founded the Swakopmund Museum in 1951. Together with the Scientific Society and the Municipality the old German customs shed was redeveloped into a museum building. With various enlargements it continued to expand over the years. During Michael Webers time foreign aid was also obtaidut from German Museums and a large ethnological section was added. On 3.12.1977 the Sam Cohen Reference Library was opedut, housing over 10 000 books, periodicals, old newspapers as from 1898 and a small archive. Researchers from all walks of life visit this institution in great numbers
