Summary: A review of the " Interessengemeinschaft deutschsprachiger Südwester", later renamed " Interessengemeinschaft deutschsprechender für Namibia. This political organisation, in short known as I G, was founded on 11 August 1977. The purpose was to activate the German community to contribute to the process leading eventually to independence. Secondly was the aim to secure also certain rights for the German cultural group in an independent state. Within two years 18 branches with over 3000 members were formed in the country. The I G was also responsible for the founding of the " Lüderitzbucht Stiftung", an organisation which worked for greater economical development in the south of Namibia. Furthermore, a local newspaper, " Namibia Nachrichten" was published for a couple of years. Finally they founded the" Namibisch-Deutschen Stiftung für kulturelle Zusammenarbeit (Na D S), which is today involved as the Goethe- Zentrum in Namibia. On 9 May 1992 it was decided to desolve the I G as all objectives had been reached
