Summary: Resurch was done on the early afrikaaner in Namaland and Damaraland and the role the Dutch Reformed Church played amongst its members. In addition the history of the London, Wesleyian, Rhenish and Finnish Mission Societies in Namibia is sketched. The movement of the Dorslandtrekkers is discussed right up into Angola. In volume two the formation of the different congregations is described. Furthermore negotiations between the Boers and the German government officials and certain cultural rights linked with schools for the children. The von Estorff declaration in 1902 made provision for the establishment of Dutch Reformed Churches and the preaching of Dutch. Furthermore, private schools could be established with the condition that German was taught for two years. Early Boer immigration into Namibia and the settlement of the pioneers throughout the country is dealt with in relation to the Dutch Reformed Church links of the settlers
