Summary: On Saturday 6th August 1983 the Castillo de Bellver, a Spanish Supertanker of 278 000 dwt carrying a load of crude oil from the Arabian Gulf ran into difficulties at 33`30 S and 12~10 E, some 44 miles to the west and slightly south of Dassen Island, the main breeding island at the Cape. Boats went out to spray the oil slick. ZANCCOB = The South African National Foundation for the Conservation of coastal Birds got into action to clean polluted birds
