Mr. Frank Guthrie was for a couple of years the Magistrate at the enclave of Walvis Bay. In his book he covers some facts and stories of the times gone by during his stay of office in the Bay. As magistrate he was also the Native Commissioner, Postmaster, Collector of Customes, Inspector of Schools, Hotel Manager for Visitors, Social food supplier for Hobos, and whatever official duties to be done. From his book one gethers that the Magistrate extended his official duties to Cape Cross in the North and as far as Sandwich Harbour in the South, including hunting trips in the Namib Desert not to be forgotton
