Short description on the functions the Rhenish Mission played in Namibia in helping the indigenous people on the one hand and on the other hand supporting the objectives of the colonizers. Missionaries did tremendous work in the linguistic field, developing education and establishing hospitals in the country. After the Herero- and Nama uprising they were responsible for stabilizing the catastrophic situation amongst the local defeated populations
